1. Why does one need an evaluation of education credentials?
- If you have a foreign degree and intend to pursue education at an university in the United States, you might be required to submit your educational credentials evaluation along with your application.
- If you wish to arrive into the United States as a professional, for example on H1B visa or J-1 visa, you will need your educational credentials evaluated and submitted with your visa application.
- If you apply for a ‘Green Card’ on the basis of your professional status you would need to include educational credentials evaluation in the application package.
- If you intend to submit Application of licensure/certification to practice your trade in the United States.
- Request by a prospective employer to determine your equivalency to US education.
2. Who performs credential evaluation services in the United States?
In the Unites States, credential evaluation is done by universities, AACRAO, NACES approved firms and private organizations with qualified evaluators such as Credeval Inc. Universities, employers and federal, state and local governments and USCIS generally require that credentials be evaluated by organizations with qualified evaluators like CREDEVAL Inc. Credential evaluation is not a function of any US government agency
3. Will USCIS accept the evaluation provided by Credeval Inc.?
YES. Our educational credential evaluations, professional work experience evaluations, position evaluations, and expert options meet USCIS regulations. The USCIS has always accepted evaluations provided by qualified evaluators of Credeval Inc. We have a number of successful stories where our customers received H1B visas, certifications, government jobs and green cards using our professional evaluations of educational credentials.
4. Will United States colleges and universities accept your evaluation?
Colleges and universities regularly use our evaluation services. Each school makes its own policy regarding the evaluation of foreign degrees and may insist on affirm that is a part of NACES. You should contact the college or university to which you intend to apply to determine whether they accept evaluations from credential evaluation companies with qualified evaluators.
5. Does Credeval Inc. provide educational course by course evaluation with GPA conversion to be used for university admission purposes?
YES. We prepare educational credential evaluations that are accepted by a majority of universities. An evaluation report includes a general statement of educational equivalence, a calculation of the US credit hour equivalence, a calculation of the US grade equivalence, and a calculation of the American GPA (Grade Point Average).
6. Do you provide translation services?
Yes. We provide translations of documents from the majority of foreign languages, but might not be able to evaluate transcripts that have been translated by yourself or other external entities as there is a possibility of incorrect educational subjects and terms in their own translations.
7. If I do not have a document (diploma) of higher education but have substantial work experience in the field of my education, can my education and experience be evaluated as corresponding to US bachelor degree?
YES. We can determine educational equivalency for education in combination with your professional work experience evaluation. This evaluation can be used only for immigration purposes, employment, and in some cases for continuation of education.
8. Can I apply for an H-1B visa if I have no university-level education?
YES. According to INS regulations three years of relevant professional-level work experience (the three-for-one rule). Thus, if an individual has no university level education can substitute for 1 year of education. The minimum education requirement for a H1B application is 4 years so that would mean the petitioner should exhibit 12 years of progressive experience in the field of the “specialty occupation”.
9. Can work experience be used in educational credential evaluation?
No. This is not allowed under current USCIS stipulations.
10. Are you a member of any professional associations related to evaluation of educational credentials?
Yes. We are a member of NAFSA – Association of Foreign Educators, AEA and AACRAO. NAFSA is a collective member of National Council for Evaluation of Foreign Educational Credentials and participates in development of methodology of evaluation of foreign educational documents.
